Fluorodur | Fillamentum

Fluorodur is made of a very durable polymer, polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) made using Kynar® PVDF by Arkema. Its chemical structure, fluor atoms in the polymer chain, and high crystallinity make it extremely mechanically resistant, exceptionally chemically resistant, weather-resistant, and much more.

How to store filaments

Humidity and UV light can decrease the filament quality and weaken its mechanical properties. We strongly recommend storing open filaments in a dry and dark place. You can find a complete guide on how to properly store your filament here

Where to throw print fails and supports?

We kindly ask our customers to cope with plastic waste responsibly. Failed prints, support material, rafts, or brims should be liquidated according to the local guidelines. Paradoxically, in most cases, it is better to throw this waste in the regular trash can, as most of the material waste created in 3D printing is not identified, which causes more problems than benefits in the waste sorting facilities.

The material is very rigid and tough, it has a high impact strength. Fluorodur exhibits long-term stability.

Thanks to a strong H–F bond, the polymer chains can’t be easily attacked and influenced even by harsh chemicals, or moisture. It also holds the structure under high and continuous load (creep resistance), by wear (abrasion resistance), by higher temperature (thermal resistance), or in case of fire (self-extinguishing).

Certain chemical substances have no influence on Fluorodur up to temperatures about 100–140 °C. But it always depends on different parameters. Always print a small object and test it under given conditions (substance, temperature, time).

Features:

  • Smooth finish
  • Temperature resistance up to 150 °C
  • Tensile strength, toughness
  • Excellent weather resistance
  • Self-extinguishing
  • High impact strength
  • Great layer adhesion
  • Chemical resistance against car fluids, halogenated hydrocarbons, alcohols, acids, bases, ozone, and water
  • Resistance against chemicals up to 110 °C
  • High density
  • Good electrical insulation
  • Low moisture absorption
  • Barrier properties – low gas permeability
  • Low wetting, non-stick surface

General information about PVDF :

PVDF (polyvinylidene fluoride) is a fluoropolymer filament for parts that have to withstand aggressive chemicals, weather and continuous load. It is aimed at engineers and experienced users printing technical parts for chemical, automotive or outdoor applications. We stock Fillamentum Fluorodur, made from Kynar® PVDF by Arkema, in our warehouse in Senec, Slovakia.

Properties of PVDF

  • Chemical resistance – resists car fluids, halogenated hydrocarbons, alcohols, acids, bases, ozone and water; according to Fillamentum, resistance to chemicals is kept up to about 110 °C.
  • Temperature resistance up to 150 °C.
  • Self-extinguishing and excellent weather resistance.
  • Rigid and tough – high impact strength, good creep and abrasion resistance, great layer adhesion.
  • Other – low moisture absorption, low gas permeability, good electrical insulation and a low-wetting, non-stick surface.
  • High density of 1.79 g/cm³, so a spool of the same weight holds less filament than PLA.

Print settings (Fluorodur)

  • Nozzle about 260 °C, bed about 100 °C.
  • Part cooling 0–15 %.
  • Print speed 20–40 mm/s.
  • Enclosure recommended.
  • Drying: 80 °C for 2 hours.

Typical uses

Fittings, housings and holders that come into contact with fuels, oils or laboratory chemicals, parts for outdoor use and components that must keep their shape under long-term load.

Pros and cons

  • Pros: chemical and weather resistance far beyond common filaments, self-extinguishing, tough and stable over time.
  • Cons: needs high temperatures, slow printing and preferably an enclosure; the non-stick character of the material makes bed adhesion more demanding.

Frequently asked questions

Is PVDF resistant to every chemical?

No material is. Resistance depends on the substance, temperature and exposure time. Fillamentum recommends printing a small test object and checking it under your real conditions.

Do I need an enclosure?

It is recommended. A stable, warm environment and low cooling help layer adhesion and dimensional accuracy.

Fillamentum

Fillamentum is a Czech manufacturer of premium 3D printing filaments, known for a very wide colour range and unique shades. It is a favourite of makers who care about the look of their prints, and it also offers technical materials such as CPE, nylon and flexible grades. JustCreate3D keeps a broad Fillamentum selection in stock in its warehouse in Senec, Slovakia, and dispatches orders quickly.

Based in Czechia, Fillamentum is one of the trendsetters of the 3D printing material industry. It exports to more than 62 countries and has more than 15 years of experience in plastics processing. Its filaments come on transparent spools, so you can always see how much material is left.

Who is Fillamentum for?

Choose PLA Extrafill when colour and surface quality matter – for models, prototypes and decorations. CPE HG100 is a tougher, easy-to-print alternative to PETG for functional parts. The Flexfill range covers flexible parts from soft to semi-rigid, and the nylon grades suit wear-resistant mechanical parts; remember to dry nylon before printing.

Frequently asked questions

Where is Fillamentum made?

Fillamentum is a Czech brand. Its filaments are exported to more than 62 countries around the world.

What is CPE HG100?

CPE is a copolyester related to PETG. It was developed for users who want more toughness than PETG while keeping easy printing with no warping.

Which Flexfill should I choose?

The number in the name is the Shore hardness: the lower the number, the softer and more elastic the part. Flexible filaments print best slowly, ideally with a direct-drive extruder.
