PLA Basic | Bambu Lab
Bambu Lab PLA Basic is the easiest material to start with and the everyday workhorse for most prints. It is designed for high-speed printing: compared to general PLA it easily reaches 250–300 mm/s while keeping excellent toughness and Z-layer strength.

How to store filaments
Humidity and UV light can decrease the filament quality and weaken its mechanical properties. We strongly recommend storing open filaments in a dry and dark place. You can find a complete guide on how to properly store your filament here
Where to throw print fails and supports?
We kindly ask our customers to cope with plastic waste responsibly. Failed prints, support material, rafts, or brims should be liquidated according to the local guidelines. Paradoxically, in most cases, it is better to throw this waste in the regular trash can, as most of the material waste created in 3D printing is not identified, which causes more problems than benefits in the waste sorting facilities.
The filament comes on a reusable spool with an RFID tag, so Bambu Lab printers with AMS recognise the material and colour automatically and load the right print profile.
- Easy to print and beginner friendly
- Smooth surface finish
- Biodegradable under industrial composting conditions
- Low indoor printing emissions, certified to UL GREENGUARD 2904
- Diameter 1.75 mm ± 0.03 mm
- Compatible with all AMS units
Recommended settings: nozzle 190–230 °C, bed 35–45 °C (Cool Plate, High Temperature Plate or Textured PEI Plate), cooling fan on. Dry at 50 °C for 8 h if the filament has absorbed moisture.
General information about PLA :
PLA is a great material with awesome printability, it is great for novice printers and perfectly works with any printer. Depending on the brand and the type, it mostly differs in mechanical and thermal resistance, and as you may think color. 3D PLA filaments are the most widely printed because of their ease to use and so the producer did want to catch a market share by offering colors beyond the rainbow's colors. PLA was until recently a weak filament with only 50°C heat resistance and very poor mechanical properties. The demand for PLA made producers overengineer the material and some firms managed to put seriously increase this once hobby-only material.
Differences in PLA price usually mean better color consistency, lower in-filament humidity rate, better diameter tolerance, higher thermal resistance (see Volcano PLA from FormFutura), and better stiffness (up to 9x like PolyMax from PolyMaker).
Printability of PLA filament
PLA is the easiest to print material. It is very forgiving and usually, most slicer predefined settings will work well. PLA doesn't warp, has great overhang capabilities, and has a great interlayer adhesion. Most of the time, PLA doesn't even require an adhesive to stick to the hotbed.
PLA mechanical and thermal properties
Regular basic PLA is stiff and not very tough meaning that it can break easily. Its main disadvantage is that it starts softening at 50°C. It is mostly suited for visual prototypes and non-functional models. Because of its ease of print, most brands have modified and pushed the PLA boundaries further making some PLAs suitable for functional prototypes.
Tips and other notable benefits
PLA is so-called "eco-friendly" and is widely used for compostable cutlery. "So-called" because its compatibility is not what you would expect from this word.

Bambu Lab filaments are the original materials developed together with Bambu Lab 3D printers such as the A1, P1 and X1 series. They are for anyone who wants plug-and-print results: every spool carries an RFID tag, so the AMS recognises the material and colour and loads the right print profile automatically. JustCreate3D keeps Bambu Lab filaments in stock in its warehouse in Senec, Slovakia, and dispatches orders quickly.
Bambu Lab is a consumer-tech company founded in 2020 in Shenzhen, China, by a team of engineers from the robotics and drone industry. Its X1, P1, A1 and H2 series made fast, reliable multi-colour 3D printing accessible to everyone.
Bambu Lab filaments at JustCreate3D
- PLA Basic – the easiest material to start with and the everyday workhorse, designed for high-speed printing.
- PETG Basic and PETG HF – tougher than PLA; PETG HF is optimised for high-speed printing, with less oozing and a uniform matte finish.
- PETG-CF – PETG reinforced with carbon fibre for stiffer functional parts.
- TPU 95A HF and TPU for AMS – flexible TPU; TPU for AMS is made to feed reliably through the AMS for multi-colour flexible prints.
Which Bambu Lab filament to choose?
Starting out on an A1 or A1 mini? Begin with PLA Basic. For parts that need more toughness or heat resistance, move to PETG Basic or PETG HF. Choose PETG-CF for stiff technical parts and print it with a hardened steel nozzle, because carbon fibre is abrasive. For flexible parts, pick TPU – and if you want to print it from the AMS, take TPU for AMS.
Frequently asked questions
Will the AMS recognise the filament automatically?
Yes. Bambu Lab spools carry an RFID tag that tells the AMS the exact material and colour, so the matching print profile is loaded without manual setup.
Can I print TPU from the AMS?
Standard flexible filaments are usually fed outside the AMS. Bambu Lab TPU for AMS was developed to feed reliably through the AMS, which makes multi-colour flexible prints possible.
Do I need to dry Bambu Lab filament?
Store spools dry. If a filament has absorbed moisture, dry it before printing – the recommended drying temperature and time for each material are listed in its product description.
